This film and Pain and Gain are similar in that they are based on true stories that seem unbelievable that they happened. The problem with this story was that I felt that the style and structure of the film is off.

It is a bit unfocused at times. The tone is also off, going from comedy to drama to comedy. I think Steven Soderbergh or Michel Goddrey could have done a better directing job.

I thought the film Behind the Candlelabre was better than this one. I thought this film was better than Pain and Gain though. In a weird way, the film reminded me of The Talented Mr.

Jim Carrey is amazing as Steve Russell. At times you are laughing with him and at times he makes you cry.

He does an amazing acting job here. Ewan McGregor does a good job too. They have a great on screen chemistry together.

Sep 26, One of the more underrated films in recent years, this was perhaps difficult for some people to embrace because of its homosexual themes.

I was deeply moved by both leads and felt this was the third at least showcase of Jim Carrey's talent that was worthy of an Oscar nomination. This is an imperfect film with some very poignant moments, especially the last half hour.

The fact that it's based on a true story makes it that much more compelling. This film was made in and sat on the shelf for more than a year due in part to the dilemma of how to market it.
