By Film Is Dead was the word in the Industry, New Digital Cameras were coming out every few months each one better than the prior, Kodak filed for bankruptcy, and almost everyone was shooting digital except for a few people holding out and continuing to shoot on film.
During this time Metro Post continued to support these clients with processing and scanning services and as each year passed, we have seen motion picture acquisition steadily growing.
At Metro Post we do our best to make clients budget work to shoot film. There has not been a local NYC lab for Super 8 processing for a number of years, Super 8 shooters were subject to long turnaround times to get their film processed, we vowed to change that and in the ever demanding film world of fast turnaround is one of the reasons why we decided to open our own lab.
Kodak has bought back this iconic stock to the still and motion picture film users to much appreciation. It's a Russian disaster movie based on the simple plot of how one day a metro train gets hit by the unexpected flood in a tunnel and how few key characters make themselves to see the sun light again despite all odds against them.
What drives this metro are two key factors; technical finesse in showing the flood hitting the metro and few characters worth rooting for.
The scene where water strikes the passengers in the compartments is a technical marvel. A small fresh love story, a broken marriage and a love triangle, all key connections and conflicts between the key characters are done nicely.
Camera work and art direction in showing the haunting images of the disaster is astounding. However, acting wise there was ample possibility of improvement.
I am going with good 7 out of 10 for Metro. It never reaches to the height of perfection but by doing few things up right, it makes you feel the experience of a disaster.

Scott and Kevin manage to stop the cable car and chase Korda into a parking garage, where they apprehend him. Teal attacks Ronnie at her apartment, but Scott intervenes and chases Teal down the fire escape, where the latter is struck and killed by a passing car.
An angry Scott visits Korda in jail and warns him to stay away from Ronnie, showing him an autopsy picture of Teal, which enrages Korda.
The next morning, Korda escapes from the jail and kidnaps Ronnie, leading Scott and Kevin into a confrontation at an abandoned shipyard.
Korda threatens to kill Ronnie by decapitating her on the cutting machine she is pinned to if Scott doesn't follow his instructions.
Korda charges toward Scott in a sports car, but is shot from a vantage point by Kevin, causing him to swerve and crash through the warehouse entrance.
Scott frees Ronnie, while Kevin engages Korda in a shootout where the former is shot in the abdomen. Korda tries to escape in Scott's truck, but Scott fights for control of it and leaps out of the way as Korda rams into a stack of explosive barrels and is killed in a massive explosion.
The movie received generally negative reviews from critics who felt that Murphy had done the film many times previously.
And the jiggling camera can't blur the careless mechanical stitching in a sequence that tries to make up for in length what it lacks in inventiveness.
After all, when you've seen one spinning car, haven't you seen them all? And hasn't this demolition derby been staged several times before on the same streets with infinitely more pizazz and zest for destruction?
At the end, writer Feldman has actually dreamed up a variation on the old silent movie chestnut, where the mustache-twirling villain has the heroine tied to a sawmill plank.
I'm not even sure this scene is intended humorously; the actors and director all milk it dry. And, except for Murphy's rapid-fire badinage, "Metro" has the kind of writing that suggests a mind filled with heroines tied to sawmill planks.
Murphy gives a surprising turn and performance as Roaper and thus it makes a change to see him in an almost completely non-comedic role, which he does well in.
